The body of a 22-year-old man who drowned at Palouse Falls was pulled from the waters below the waterfall Friday.

Visitors to the state park around the falls called in the discovery of a body found floating in the pool below the falls Friday morning. Officials with the Franklin County coroner and sheriff offices, along with Columbia Basin Dive Rescue pulled it from the water.

Coroner Dan Blasdel said the body was positively identified as belonging to James A. Hopkins of Lake Stevens. No autopsy is scheduled.

Hopkins was one of three people seen struggling to swim in the pool below the falls late on Sunday. Two bystanders were able to help two of the people in the water with Hopkins but were not able to reach him before he disappeared.

Authorities attempted to search for Hopkins when they arrived but that search was halted on Tuesday when conditions proved too dangerous to continue.
