UPDATED: Search for body at Palouse Falls under way

Emergency responders were searching for a possible drowning victim at Palouse Falls Monday.

Three people are believed to have been swimming at the base of the falls Sunday afternoon, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

All three appeared to be having trouble, but other people visiting the falls were able to reach two of the swimmers. The third swimmer, identified only as a 22-year-old man, had not been found as of 2 p.m. Monday.

Officials from the sheriff’s office and from Columbia Basin Dive Rescue were at the falls Monday. The two agencies and MedStar responded to an emergency call at the falls Sunday at 5:20 p.m..

The SARbot, an underwater search robot, was expected to be used at the falls, said Dan Blasdel, Franklin County coroner.
