A speeding driver died in Kennewick Saturday night after running a stop sign and striking another vehicle.

The Kennewick Police Department reports John Beauchamp, 22, of Kennewick was taken to Trios Health where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police Beauchamp was speeding in a 1987 Volkswagen Jetta east on 36th Avenue with his headlights off.

He failed to stop at Stop sign at Vancouver Street ans struck a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup that was making a left turn onto Vancouver. The driver of the truck, Trevor T. Coleman, 32, had no major injuries.

The Kennewick Police Traffic Unit is investigating. Speed and failing to stop at a stop sign appear to be contributing factors, it said.
