Memorial fund set up to help Benton County sergeant’s family

Relatives of a detective sergeant in the Benton County Sheriff’s Office who died Saturday have set up an online account to raise money for funeral expenses and help pay for his children’s college expenses.

The GoFundMe for the Sergeant Kevin McCary Memorial Fund can be found here: http://bit.ly/McCaryMemorial. The account has so far raised more than $2,700 of its $25,000 goal as of early Tuesday afternoon.

McCary,47, was found dead outside his home in Eltopia. The Franklin County Coroner is investigating his death as a suicide. He’d worked for the Benton County sheriff for 24 years and was on medical leave.

A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. April 20 at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home at 1608 W. Court St. in Pasco. McCary’s funeral will be at 10 a.m. April 21 at the LDS Parley Building at 4618 Porto Lane in Pasco, preceded by a viewing from 8:30 to 9:30 am.
