From the archives: Kidney-shaped bay was known as Ice Harbor
In the days before dams controlled the Snake River, riverboat captains sought refuge from spring ice floes in this kidney-shaped bay, which eventually became known as Ice Harbor.
The bay, shown here in about 1950, was inundated by the dam that bears its name.
