Seattle touring group entertains, educates Tri-City students

Members of the Adventure Musical Theater Touring Company from the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle present The Mercer Girls to elementary students from public and private Richland schools Wednesday at the Chief Joseph Middle School auditorium.

The musical is framed in 1864, during the Civil War, and shares the history of how women were recruited from the East Coast by Asa Mercer to settle and teach around the Seattle area in the Washington Territory.

This is the seventh year local businesses and individuals have sponsored the group to perform in area schools.

It’s estimated 5,000 students in grades K-8 around the Mid-Columbia will see the show during this year’s week-long series of presentations.
