A wind advisory is in effect in the Tri-Cities until 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Very windy weather with gusts between 45 to 50 mph will blow across the region today, said the National Weather Service in Pendleton.

Winds will peak Thursday afternoon before diminishing in the evening.

The advisory includes the Tri-Cities, Prosser, Connell, Pilot Rock, Pendleton, Dayton, Waitsburg, Boardman, Hermiston, foothills of the Blue Mountains and Lower Columbia Basin.

A wind advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
