Public invited to help clean Bateman Island
The public is invited to help the Washington State University Tri-Cities environmental club clean up Bateman Island from 9 a.m. to noon March 26.
Volunteers will pick up trash and are encouraged to bring gloves, snacks and refillable water bottles. Bags and buckets will be provided by the city of Richland. The island is at the north end of Columbia Center Boulevard, just west of Columbia Park.
Volunteers should meet at the Columbia Park Trail at Wye Park, 1600 Columbia Park Trail, Richland.
“We held our first cleanup day for Bateman Island last November and it was really successful,” said Elinor Lake, club president. “More than 60 people and 10 local organizations helped us remove trash ranging from plastic bottles to larger items such as a railroad ties and a miniature stove.”
