Sandhill cranes migrate through West Richland
A trio of sandhill cranes forage Tuesday in a marshy field on Twin Bridges Road in West Richland.
Adult birds can have a wingspan between 6 to 8 feet and stand more than 4 feet tall.
They feed on a wide variety of plant tubers, grains, small vertebrates such as mice and snakes, and invertebrates such as insects or worms, according to the International Crane Foundation.
The annual spring migration of the birds has been under way for about the past two to three weeks.
