A suicidal man Saturday drove his pickup into the Columbia River near the Edison Boat Launch in Kennewick.

Then he escaped, Kennewick police reported on its Facebook page.

The police department said the driver was taken to a Tri-City hospital for treatment and is expected to recover. The driver admitted to trying to kill himself.

Benton & Franklin Counties Crisis Response Unit counselors are talking to the man, police said.
