The Tri-City region’s only state park opens for the season April 1.

The Washington state park system is celebrating its 103rd birthday with free entrance days at some other state parks March 19 and March 26. However, Sacajawea State Park won’t be participating in those free days since it still is closed for winter.

The 284-acre site at 2503 Sacajawea Park Road is at the confluence of the Snake and Columbia rivers five miles south of Pasco.

Sacajawea will have its own free day on April 2.

That is “Make the Park Shine” day, when volunteers clean up the park and the interpretive center fully opens for the season, according to Charles Eaton with Friends of Sacajawea Park.
