Tickets going fast for LIGO discovery celebration
The LIGO Hanford Observatory will celebrate the historic observation of gravitational waves from a pair of colliding black holes, plus the 100th anniversary of Einstein’s general theory of relativity, with tours of the observatory March 12.
Also planned are hands-on science exhibits, an Einstein portrait contest and commemorative tile decoration. Talks will include “Pulling Back the Curtain on Black Holes” at 3:45 p.m. and “The Most Energetic Event Ever Detected” at 5:15 p.m.
There is no cost for the event at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory about 10 miles north of Richland, but tickets are required and are going fast. Only tickets for the 3:30 and 5 p.m. arrival times remain.
To obtain a ticket, email outreach@ligo-wa.caltech.edu with the number of people in your party and the license plant number of the car that will be driven to the observatory.
