Columbia Center has received a building permit for its newest tenant, HomeGoods.

The city of Kennewick issued a permit for a $2.7 million project to Simon Property Group, the mall’s owner.

Work includes preparing the site, 1321 N. Columbia Center Blvd., as well as construction of a 22,000-square-foot building and interior improvements. Moorefield Construction, based in Santa Ana, Calif., is the contractor.

HomeGoods is a home furnishings arm of The TJX Companies, which reported net income of $2.2 billion on $29 billion in net sales in its 2014 annual report.

The HomeGoods addition in Kennewick is part of a 60-store expansion planned in 2016, according to the company’s most recent annual financial report. It has about 500 HomeGoods stores in the U.S. and estimates the potential for the brand at 1,000 stores.

TJX, based in Framingham, Mass.-based (NYSE: TJX) also owns the T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Sierra Trading Post and Winners chains. In Washington, it operates 19 T.J. Maxx stores in Washington, 16 Marshalls and four HomeGoods locations.

Columbia Center is owned by Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group.
