Update: Longtime Richland business owner dies after being struck by car
Ray Chin, the longtime owner of a Richland restaurant and music venue, has died after he was struck by a car while crossing the street over the weekend, according to a GoFundMe page set up for his family.
The former owner of Ray’s Golden Lion in the Uptown Shopping Center was hit Feb. 12 about 5:35 p.m. while walking north across Van Giesen Street near Birch Avenue.
Chin, 83, was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland with severe head injuries, police said.
A post to the GoFundMe page announced Chin died late in the afternoon on Feb. 14.
Chin, a chef, started Ray’s Golden Lion in 1963. The bar closed in late 2015.
Chin apparently was returning home from a walk when he was struck, police said. A light rain was falling, it was dark and he was wearing all dark clothing.
He was hit by a Honda Accord being driven west on Van Giesen Street by Brenda Nelson, 42, of Richland, police said. No charges are pending.
Police say it was a tragic accident.
