KID moving to new building this week
The Kennewick Irrigation District will move into its new building at 2015 S. Ely St. in Kennewick by Feb. 16.
The current downtown office on Kennewick Avenue will be closed Feb. 11 through Feb. 15, which is Presidents Day. And the board’s regularly scheduled Feb. 16 meeting is canceled because of the move.
The KID announced plans to build an office building in southeast Kennewick in early 2015 to consolidate administrative staff with field staff. It already had another 5,600-square-foot facility there that now will be used for truck bays and other non-office uses.
About 60 KID employees will be based at the new 15,000-square-foot building, including field workers who have been based at the other facility there. The cost of the building, plus parking and landscaping, is expected to come to about $4.5 million to $5 million.
The historic downtown building owned by KID was sold to Meier Architecture for $915,000. KID is financing the sale at 5.5 percent interest.
