Man dies in one-car wreck near Sunnyside

A Sunnyside man died at the scene after failing to stop at an intersection and careening off the road early Sunday.

Jose D. Jiminez, 24, was driving southbound on Maple Grove Road around 5:30 a.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign, according to the Washington State Patrol. Jiminez was driving a 2003 Nissan 350Z, which struck a fence and continued approximately 120 yards before stopping. He was not wearing a seat belt.

A passenger, Luis A. Ramirez, 32, of Sunnyside, was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. It is not known if drugs or alcohol were involved. No other vehicles were involved.
