Tri-City students nominated to U.S. military academies
U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse has nominated eight Tri-City high school seniors and one high school graduate to attend the nation’s military academies.
Two of the nominees, Nicolas Fraga and Alexandria Fredrickson, both seniors at Hanford High School, received two nominations each for the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.
The other nominees include Southridge High School senior Charles Landefeld and Hanford High senior Clayton Porcaro for the Military Academy at West Point in New York; Hanford High senior Seth King and Richland High School graduate Robert Leam for the Naval Academy and Pasco High senior Carson Bergstrom, Hanford High senior Austin Dreyer and Richland High senior Lakota Wills for the Air Force academy.
A member of Congress must nominate students interested in attending the military academies, except the Coast Guard Academy.
The nominees have yet to learn whether they will be admitted. Accepted students must serve five years in the military after graduating from an academy.
