Former longtime KID board member dies
The Kennewick Irrigation District remembered the service of longtime former board member Carl Petersen on Thursday.
Petersen, 88, of Kennewick, died Jan. 5.
He was the longest tenured board member at KID, serving from 1964 to 2003, KID said in a statement. During those years the district transitioned from mostly serving agricultural land to serving a growing urban area.
Petersen, an orchardist, was active in helping the district prepare and respond to the change with canal and infrastructure improvements. He also helped develop KID’s first drought response plans, according to KID
No formal services are planned, but friends and family will gather at 4 p.m. Jan. 17 at The Manor at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick.
