Vigil to support refugees planned in Pasco

Welcoming the Stranger, a vigil planned for Dec. 18, will be a community gathering in support of refugees around the world.

The Community Unitarian Universalist Church in Pasco will host the event, which is from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and coincides with United Nations International Migrant Day.

“We want to provide an opportunity for folks to express caring for the millions of refugees around the world,” said the Rev. Doak Mansfield. “This will be a non-sectarian, non-political event open to all. It is a bearing witness to love over fear for the Mid-Columbia region.”

The evening will include brief reflections by those involved interspersed with meditation music, as well as a candle lighting and focus on possibilities. Participants may make a donation to support refugee agencies: World Relief Tri-Cities and Mercy Corps Portland.

The church is at 2819 W. Sylvester St., Pasco. For more information call Mansfield at 601-498-0906 or visit www.communityuu.org.
