Best-selling author Patricia Briggs is recovering from a broken jaw after being kicked in the face by one of her yearling fillies, according to her Facebook page.

Briggs, of Benton City, is the author of the Mercy Thompson urban fantasy series about a shape-shifting mechanic.

She arrived home from the hospital Tuesday and is expected to make a full recovery. She had three hours of surgery to piece her jaw back together at a Spokane hospital after being airlifted from Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.
