Umatilla forest firewood season ending
Nov. 30 will be the last day to cut firewood in the Umatilla National Forest until permits become available again in May.
Those still cutting firewood this month should be prepared for winter weather and take care not to become stuck in snow or mud. Cutters also are asked to be careful not to cut Tamarack, or western larch, which sheds its needles in the fall and may look dead.
Permits cost $5 per cord. Call 541-278-3716 for more information.
