Tri-City real estate developer dies
A Kennewick developer involved in various Tri-City real estate projects died Tuesday at Richland’s Kadlec Regional Medical Center.
Born in San Fernando, Calif., Glen L. Engelhard, 48, developed numerous housing projects and retail centers since moving to the Tri-Cities 28 years ago.
His most recent, a retail mall near the TRAC center in west Pasco, wasn’t far from a similar project he built in that area in 2010.
Engelhard, who owned Premier Realty before merging it with another real estate firm in the mid-1990s, was the exclusive selling agent for The Orchards at Meadow Springs, the large residential development south of Gage Boulevard, near Meadow Springs Golf Course.
He also built other multi-family housing in Kennewick and developed 33 acres near the intersection of Bellerive Drive and Gage Boulevard after winning it in an auction of school trust land from the state Department of Natural Resources. That project included the development of Bonefish Grill, Discount Tire, Dairy Queen, Gesa, Columbia Bank and Lucas Marc Academy.
The Yoke’s Fresh Market on Keene Road opened in 2013 on a lot sold by Engelhard. And he was developing other lots around the grocery.
About five years ago, Engelhard noted that the Tri-Cities had lots of potential for continued growth and its economy was strong.
Life Tributes Cremation Center, Kennewick, is handling his arrangements.
