Jason Sharp explains the allure of vinyl records like this:

“You listen to an MP3, but you feel a record,” Sharp said. “There’s a warmth to it, a live quality — like you’re in the room with the artist. There’s something very nostalgic and special about that.”

And it will be celebrated Nov. 27 at record stores around the country during Black Friday Record Store Day.

Adventures Underground in Richland, where Sharp works as records buyer, is taking part.

The popular Uptown Shopping Center store has sold records for years, but it recently opened its AU Records, a dedicated record shop within the adjoining Caterpillar Café.

AU Records carries everything from electronic to hip hop, soul, country, folk, soundtracks and comedy albums.

A visitor can scoop up a Johnny Cash record, and also Lana Del Rey tunes and an album called Mr T’s Commandments.

“We try to be diverse as possible with our stock, to have something for everybody,” Sharp said.

During Black Friday Record Store Day, AU Records will have some limited and exclusive inventory — like the High Fidelity soundtrack, which has never before been pressed on vinyl, and a 7-inch release of the Adam West-era Batman theme song, with Batusi on the B-side.

The Nov. 27 event also celebrates the AU Records opening. Along with the exclusive merchandise, special sales are planned.

Sharp said Adventures Underground is built around nerd culture.

“On our side, we are music nerds, vinyl nerds. I want people to feel like this is a good place to come and share their obsession with us,” he said.

Sharp is open to suggestions on inventory, and the shop can special order records that customers don’t spot on the shelves, he added.

Hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 27. For more information, go to www.advunderground.com.
