Freezing rain, wind, cold in Tri-City forecast

The National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory from midnight until 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Mid-Columbia as a low pressure system and cold front moves across the area. Tuesday night is expected to be blustery with a north wind of 13 to 22 mph and gusts as high as 31 mph. A slight chance of snow is forecast after 10 p.m.

Just about anything there is to dislike about winter weather is forecast for sometime Thanksgiving week in the Tri-Cities: freezing rain, wind, highs below freezing and lows in the teens.

A few brief flurries of flakes were reported in parts of the Tri-Cities on Monday as the flakes condensed out of the clouds.

For Tuesday the National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory from midnight until 10 a.m. in the Mid-Columbia as a low pressure system and cold front moves across the area.

With temperatures that were expected to fall just below freezing Monday night in the Tri-Cities, roads could be slick Tuesday morning.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday a wintery mix of rain and snow is possible. Little, if any, accumulation of snow and ice is expected. The high is expected to climb barely into the 40s.

Tuesday night is expected to be blustery with a north wind of 13 to 22 mph and gusts as high as 31 mph. A slight chance of snow is forecast after 10 p.m.

Windy weather likely will continue Wednesday in the Tri-Cities, with sustained speeds of 26 mph forecast and gusts as high as 37 mph. Temperatures will fall, with a high of about 36 degrees forecast for Wednesday.

The weather is forecast to be even colder for Thanksgiving through the weekend, with highs just below freezing in the Tri-Cities. Lows are expected to be in the mid teens from Wednesday night until at least the start of the weekend.
