Small farms workshop scheduled in Kennewick

The Benton Conservation District will play host to a free small farms workshop Dec. 5 in Kennewick.

The conservation district is encouraging wise stewardship of natural resources through education and voluntary programs for land managers and property owners, according to a news release.

Regional experts on hand include David James of Washington State University Extension’s Irrigation Agriculture Research Station. He will talk about improving croplands through integrated pest management.

Also there will be Jack Myrick of the Washington Conservation Commission, an expert in irrigation and pump design and management, who will talk about efficient and effective farm operations with an increasing threat of drought.

Jim Willis of the Oregon State University Master Gardeners will discuss composting for farm operations.

The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at the Benton PUD auditorium, 2721 W. 10th Ave. People are asked to register at www.bentoncd.org or call 509-736-6000.
