Free forum on restoring national motto of ‘E Pluribus Unum’ set Nov. 22 in Pasco

The leader of a group seeking to restore the national motto of “E Pluribus Unum” is scheduled to speak Nov. 22 in Pasco.

The forum coordinated by Tri-City Freethinkers is at 2 p.m. at Community Unitarian Universalist Church, 2819 W. Sylvester St.

Robert Ray is national director of the Original Motto Project, which wants to replace “In God We Trust” with the country’s original motto, which means “Out of many, one.”

“We believe that the phrase ‘E Pluribus Unum’ promotes the truly inclusive nature of American society,” while “In God We Trust” breeds division and promotes the idea that those without religious faith can’t be patriots, the group says on its website.

A trend of “In God We Trust” decals being placed on government vehicles around the country inspired Tri-City Freethinkers to coordinate the talk, a news release said.
