Kennewick annexes land for new middle school

The Kennewick City Council voted Tuesday to annex into the city 28.4 acres where a new middle school is under construction.

There was no opposition to the decision, since the Kennewick School District is the only landowner at the 1701 S. Clodfelter Road property. The district asked that its new Desert Hills Middle School be located in the city, where utility rates are lower than unincorporated Benton County.

The new middle school is expected to open in fall 2016.
