Several events are planned to honor area veterans around the Mid-Columbia on Nov. 11.

Here’s the schedule:

▪ A special Veterans Day section will be inserted into the Tri-City Herald on Nov. 11. The 16-page special section will feature more than 150 veterans with ties to the Mid-Columbia.

 

▪  Prosser’s 11th annual Thank You Vets Parade is scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 11. Lineup starts at 10 a.m. at Keene-Riverview Elementary School, 832 Park Ave. Veterans and their families can eat free for breakfast from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the Walter Clore Center, 2140 Wine Country Road, and lunch at Prosser VFW, 1101 Wine Country Road.

▪  American Legion Post 34 is presenting a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the flagpoles at Columbia Memorial Gardens, 224 S. 24th Ave., Pasco.

Edgar Hargrow, a Vietnam War veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star, will be the guest speaker.

A lunch will follow at noon at the post, 1029 W. Sylvester St.

▪  The Regional Veterans Memorial Committee will have a ceremony at the memorial in Kennewick’s Columbia Park at 11 a.m. Nov. 11. State Rep. Brad Klippert, R-Kennewick, will talk about veterans benefits.

▪  Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Sunnyside, will speak at the Sunnyside Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Jerry Taylor Veterans Plaza at the corner of Ninth Street and Edison Avenue.

▪ A ribbon-cutting for a new exhibit on the Naval Air Station Pasco is planned at 2 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Reach museum, 1943 Columbia Park Trail, Richland. A restored 1951 military Jeep and 1944 Bantam trailer, both owned by Art Moore of Kennewick, will be on display. The vehicles will again be on display from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 14 for a family program. The event will include crafts and a scavenger hunt.

The exhibit includes photos and models of the aircraft, as well as biographies of the pilots and memorabilia from 1942-45.

Veterans, active-duty military members and their families will receive free admission to the museum Nov. 11 and 14.

▪ Texas Roadhouse is offering free meals to veterans from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 11. Proof of military service is required and can include a military ID card, Veterans Affairs card or discharge papers. The restaurant is at 835 N. Columbia Center Blvd., Suite C, Kennewick.

▪  Veterans can get a free haircut at Great Clips through Dec. 31.

Great Clips has locations at 4711 W. Clearwater Ave. and 3911 W. 27th Ave. in Kennewick and at 1823 Leslie Road and 2659 Queensgate Drive in Richland.

Veterans must show proof of service. They can either get a free haircut on Veterans Day or pick up a card that day to use later. Anyone who gets a haircut at Great Clips on Nov. 11 can also get a free haircut card to give to a veteran.

▪  Veterans can get a free roast beef sandwich at Arby’s restaurants in Richland, Pasco, Kennewick, Moses Lake, Walla Walla, Ellensburg and Yakima on Veterans Day with proof of military service.

▪  Veterans, active duty military members and their spouses can get a free 12-ounce hot brewed coffee at participating Starbucks locations on Veterans Day.
