What lies ahead for Ray’s Golden Lion?
The future of a fixture in the Richland night club scene is up in the air this week.
There are reports Ray’s Golden Lion in the Uptown shopping center may be closing.
An Oct. 25 post on the bar and music venue’s Facebook page thanked people who attended, performed and worked at Ray’s over the years. And other posts this month noted that Ray’s was under new management.
A man who answered the phone at the venue Tuesday afternoon said he didn’t have any information about the future of Ray’s, but said the business and its owner Ray Chin had been pushed out.
Ray’s has been open for decades as a Chinese restaurant and music venue, with big name artists such as Frank Sinatra Jr., Ike and Tina Turner and Meatloaf performing there.
It was in the early 2000s that Chin saw the transformation into a space for punk, rock and rap music and a resulting sanctuary for not just young adults but those under 21, as well.
This week, patrons are asking on Facebook if upcoming shows are still happening since they already bought tickets. The band Ghost Inside was scheduled to perform Oct. 28, though that event has since moved to Walla Walla’s Main Street Studios, and refunds are reportedly being offered for those unable to make it.
Chin couldn’t be reached Tuesday about the future of the club.
Tucannon Cellars
Tucannon Cellars is out to show that Halloween isn’t just for kids.
The Benton City winery will have its Hall-O-Wine costume party from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 31. Those who show up in costume will get to choose from a free wine tasting, a 10 percent discount on any purchase or a gift from Tucannon’s Gags N’ Gifts bowl. There also are prizes for the best, scariest and ugliest costumes.
Those who don’t dress up can still trick-or-treat at the winery at 40504 Demoss Road, though that requires you pass Tucannon’s Horror Movie Trivia.
Zinful
Downtown Kennewick’s panini grill and wine bar made it onto a list of 15 Washington restaurants that make the best sandwiches.
Zinful came in at No. 7 on the list put by the Washington website Only In Your State. The blog post described the restaurant as a “must-stop in the Tri-Cities” that “presents a calming ambiance and a menu full of quality paninis, salads as well as a solid selection of fine wine.”
The Walla Walla Sub Shop also came in at No. 11, as did restaurants in Moses Lake and Wenatchee. Meconi’s Italian Subs, with shops in Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater, was No. 1.
