Pasco to flush water lines Oct. 22

Some Pasco homes and businesses may see a temporary drop in water pressure or discolored water on Oct. 22 while the city Public Works Department flushes lines.

The “unidirectional flushing” program will be performed between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to ensure water customers continue receiving high-quality drinking water.

This new method of routine maintenance involves opening fire hydrants, closing valves and flushing Pasco’s water mains at a high velocity, which both cleanses the pipe’s inner walls and removes debris and sediment.

Derek Wittala, public works division manager, said the top priority is maintaining access and water services to homes and businesses. However, there may be some disruption.

Discolored water will not pose a health hazard and should clear up after running the tap for a few minutes, said Wittala. If still discolored or it creates staining on porcelain or laundry, people can call 509-545-3463.

Streets where flushing will take place: Argent and Crescent roads; Aspen Loop; Judemein, Kathemein, Lindemein, Oak and Pine courts; Locust, Oak, Shady and View lanes; Maple Drive; Willow Way; Roads 100-101 and 103-111; and West Court Street.
