New comic strip replaces retiring Stone Soup

After 25 years, Jan Eliot is taking a step back from her popular comic strip Stone Soup.

The Eugene, Ore.-based artist ended her daily strip last week.

“I have reached a point in life where I’d like to be free of these daily deadlines — free to travel more, spend more time with family and friends, pursue other creative projects,” she said in a news release from her syndicate, Universal Uclick.

Starting today, we will replace it Rhymes with Orange — a strip by artist Hilary B. Price and distributed by King Features.

Price said the name of the strip comes from the belief that no single word in the English language rhymes with “orange.”

“I chose the title to show the singularity of the strip’s perspective, one that highlights the trials of my life and that of my friends,” according to the strip’s website.

The strip has no specific repeating characters or continuing storyline but features common themes including cats, dogs and life’s absurdities.
