UPDATE: Two injured Priest Rapids Dam workers released from hospital
Two of the workers injured at Priest Rapids Dam on Thursday in an electrical explosion were released Sunday from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, while another critically injured patient was upgraded to serious condition.
The patients, who weren’t identified, were in satisfactory condition when originally admitted to the hospital, a release said. One was discharged Sunday morning while the other left Harborview in the afternoon.
Three workers now remain at Harborview, which includes the recently upgraded patient, another in satisfactory condition and one still in critical condition.
The explosion at the dam was the result of the failure of electrical equipment, officials said. A breaker for one of the 10 generators at the dam malfunctioned, though the cause of that malfunction isn’t known.
The injured workers, all plant electricians or operators, were nearby at the time and are being treated for burns. None of their names have been released, but the two men critically injured in the incident are in their 40s.
The dam near Desert Aire on the Columbia River upstream from Hanford remained in stable operating condition. There are no public safety issues, including no downstream flooding, according to the Grant PUD.
People interested in making a donation to help injured workers and their families should send it to Granco Credit Union, P.O. Box 127, Ephrata, 98823. Donation should be marked “Priest Rapids Family Fund.”
