6 workers injured at Priest Rapids Dam
Six Grant Public Utility District workers were injured by the explosion of electrical equipment at Priest Rapids Dam on the Columbia River at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, according to the Grant PUD.
The workers have various levels of injury and were taken to hospitals or other medical facilities by MedStar and ground ambulances, according to the PUD. The extent of their injuries was unknown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Their families had been contacted.
A relay may have been involved in the explosion, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. The hydroelectric dam, which is near Desert Aire remains stable, according to the PUD.
Multiple agencies responded to the emergency, including the Hanford Fire Department.
