Richland geologist to give Ice Age floods talk Sept. 29
Bruce Bjornstad, local author and geologist, will give a talk at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Hermiston Public Library, 235 E. Gladys Ave. His lecture is titled “A Bird’s Eye View of the Ice Age Floods.”
Cataclysmic floods struck the Pacific Northwest approximately 15,000 years ago. Those floods are believed to have inundated portions of the continent, and shaped the geography of the Pacific Northwest as it is today.
In his lecture, Bjornstad will explain how these floods occurred, and identify the significant impact they had on the region. His presentation will feature a slide show and aerial footage.
Bjornstad is a senior research scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
