Tri-City Herald photographer Sarah Gordon won first place in the feature category of the 2015 Associated Press Northwest photo contest.

Her photo last October of a preschool trip to the Country Mercantile pumpkin patch in Pasco won in the non-metro division.

And former Herald reporter Kristi Pihl took second place in the Debby Lowman Award for Distinguished Reporting of Consumer Affairs. In that category, newspapers of all sizes in the Northwest are judged together, regardless of circulation.

The award is named for a Seattle Times consumer reporter who died of cancer in 1978.

Pihl was honored for last year’s Tri-City Made series of stories that focused on the manufacturing industry and the Tri-City economy.

The awards were announced at the annual meeting of the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Association.
