Annual Kennewick walk to raise awareness for suicide prevention

A free 1-mile walk to raise awareness about suicide prevention and to remember those who have died by suicide is planned Sept. 12.

The Benton Franklin Suicide Prevention Coalition and the Youth Suicide Prevention Program are holding the seventh annual “Walk About to Talk About Suicide Prevention,” which kicks off at 10:30 a.m.

The walk will begin in the Outback Steakhouse parking lot on Canal Drive in Kennewick.

The first 100 participants will receive a free coupon for a Bloomin’ Onion appetizer from Outback Steakhouse. A community art project also is planned.

According to the Benton Franklin Health Department, 31 people have committed suicide since Jan. 1 in Benton and Franklin counties.

Help is immediately available by calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 800-273-8255.
