Richland to pick up yard debris
Beginning Monday, Richland's garbage service will pick up of bags of leaves and yard debris from homes.
The special curbside service will be offered for five weeks on the same day as normal trash pickup.
Green yard debris containers will be emptied in December but the city wants leaves bagged and branches bundled and left at the curb. Branches should be no longer than four feet long and four inches thick, bundled with twine and not weigh more than 50 pounds.
This change is expected to be more convenience for residents, as well as reduce illegal dumping of debris and ensure yard debris is composted rather than put in the landfill, said a city news release. Regular plastic lawn and leaf bags are acceptable for this event only.
Yard debris will continue to be accepted for free at the Horn Rapids Landfill any time of the year.
There is no limit to the number of bags placed out for collection during the five weeks.
