Authorities are investigating the death of a Goldendale man at the Klickitat County jail.

Initial reports indicate that Anthony Stewart, 33, hanged himself Tuesday, according to the Klickitat County Prosecuting Attorney, who serves as the county's coroner. The autopsy was conducted by the Clark County medical examiner.

The Skamania County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances of Stewart's death at the request of Klickitat County sheriff's officials.

Stewart was in custody in connection with charges alleging that he raped a woman and assaulted an infant at a Goldendale home Dec. 10.
