Puncture vine bounty offered in Boardman
Boardman again is offering a bounty on puncture vines after collecting about 2,600 pounds last summer.
The city will pay $3 per bag in July and $1 per bag until a $300 fund is gone.
Bags can be picked up at city hall between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. For more information, call 481-9252.
John Russell, city code officer, said, "This is a great opportunity for local youth to raise money for their organizations and to do something good for their community." Areas of the most concern are bike/pedestrian paths and residential areas.
The prickly seeds of the weed, known as goathead, are a common hazard to bicycle tires, children's feet and pets.
