Three juveniles killed in suspected DUI wreck between Mabton and Sunnyside
Three juveniles were killed in a wreck near Mabton Saturday.
Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Green Valley Road and Snipes Pump Road, between Mabton and Sunnyside, just before midnight, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
When first responders arrived they found major damage from the wreck.
A Subaru Legacy was turning eastbound onto Green Valley Road from Snipes Pump Road while a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta was headed westbound on Green Valley Road.
Three of the five people in the Subaru, all juveniles, were ejected from the vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene. It’s unclear how old the victims were.
The driver and front passenger were taken to an area hospital.
The driver is expected to be booked on three counts of vehicular homicide.
The driver of the Volkswagen was also taken to an area hospital with injuries.
Investigators believe intoxicants are believed to be a factor in the collision.
Families of the victims have been notified, but their identities have not yet been released.
