A Kennewick woman was injured and the driver of the car she was riding in died in a crash early Sunday on Interstate 82.

An Infiniti coupe driven by Miguel D. Britt, 23, of Union Gap, Wash., was headed west at Grandview at a high speed about 1:20 a.m. when it left the highway, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Both Britt and Nicole S. Wheeler, 21, of Kennewick, were taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, where Britt died, according to WSP. Wheeler was flown there by air ambulance.

Both had been wearing seat belts.

The driver’s identity was not released until Sunday afternoon.

The WSP said speeding caused the crash.
