A Kennewick woman was injured and the driver of the car she was riding in died in a crash early Sunday on Interstate 82.

The Infiniti coupe was headed west at Grandview at a high speed about 1:20a.m. when it left the highway, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Both the driver and Nicole S. Wheeler, 21, of Kennewick, were flown by air ambulance to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, where the driver died, according to WSP.

Both had been wearing seat belts.

The driver’s identity had not been released Sunday morning.

The WSP said speeding caused the crash.
