A West Richland man died Tuesday when his motorcycle ran into an Oregon Department of Transportation vehicle being used as a mobile safety barrier on Interstate 84 near The Dalles, Ore.

Ryan Christopher King, 38, was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle just before noon when he ran into the back of an attenuator vehicle that was stopped in the left lane of the interstate, according to the Oregon State Police.

It was acting as a barrier to protect a sweeper working along the center median on the interstate.

King died before he could be taken to a hospital.

The driver of the safety vehicle, Tristan D. Service, 42, of The Dalles, was not injured.

King was a husband and the father of three children, according to a GoFundMe started to help his wife, Alysha.

Money will be used to allow her to take time off work to be with her children, pay bills and offset funeral costs, said the post.

King was a union sheet metal worker, according to his Facebook page.
