Woman hurt saving her pets from early morning Richland house fire

A woman and her pets escaped a burning Richland home after a fire started on her porch early Friday.

Firefighters and police were called to 1320 Sanford Ave. about 3:20 a.m. after the woman living in the home spotted flames on her porch, according to dispatch reports.

The woman raced to collect her animals, and reported that the fire had already broken the windows.

She was able to save her pets, but the fire left her with burns on her fingers, dispatchers said. She was treated for the burns.

When firefighters arrived, the flames had engulfed the small home. They were able to get the fire under control in about half an hour.

The damage appeared to be severe when restoration employees were examining the home.

Richland fire officials have not shared if they determined a cause of the fire.

The Red Cross was able to provide help for the woman, according to officials.
