GOP plans ‘No King’ protest against millionaire’s tax for Tri-Cities

Tri-City Republicans plan to rally in Richland on Saturday to hold their own form of “No King” protest.

Between noon and 2 p.m., demonstrators will gather at the corner of George Washington Way and Columbia Point Drive to protest passage of the state “millionaire’s tax” passed by the Legislature.

Republicans are calling the event the “No King Ferguson Rally.” Protesters will wave signs, American flags and Washington state flags at the intersection.

Gov. Bob Ferguson has yet to sign the bill into law. If signed, it would create a 9.9% income tax for Washington households that earn more than $1 million. Republicans are already organizing an citizens initiative to repeal the tax, should it withstand a challenge in the courts.

“Fight the tyranny of outrageous taxation,” a post by the Benton County Republican Party read. “Urge Gov. Bob Ferguson veto the illegal and unconstitutional state income tax, falsely dubbed a ‘millionaires tax.’ WIth massive capital flight already happening, it won’t be long before greedy Democrats in Olympia come after your hard-earned paycheck.”

The event takes place at the same time as Saturday’s anti-Trump “No Kings” rally, which is slated for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Columbia Center Boulevard in Kennewick. That protest is organized by Indivisible Tri-Cities, and is expected to draw thousands.
