Gas prices are spiking across the nation as the U.S. war with Iran enters its second week.

President Donald Trump said that large-scale combat operations in Iran could last four to five weeks and even “go far longer than that,” The Guardian reported.

Costs for food, fuel and other goods are expected to continue to climb as crude oil prices rise.

In Washington state, gasoline prices have increased steadily over the past week or so.

While it’s generally more expensive to gas up on the west side of the Cascade Mountains, getting gas can be pricey across Washington state.

How much does gas cost in Washington state?

As of Wednesday, March 11, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline across the United States was $3.58, according to AAA.

A gallon of regular gas cost significantly more — about $4.72 a gallon on average — in Washington state as of Wednesday, the automobile association said.

This means Washington has the second-highest gas prices in the nation, beat only by California.

In California, a gallon of regular unleaded gas cost $5.34 on average as of Wednesday, according to AAA.

Only four other states had average per-gallon gas prices above $4: Hawai’i at $4.69, Nevada at $4.36, Oregon at $4.29 and Arizona at $4.02

In contrast, drivers in Idaho were paying $3.48 for a gallon of regular gas as of Wednesday, according to AAA.

Are gas costs increasing in Washington state?

As of Wednesday, gas prices in Washington state are about 31 cents higher than they were a week ago, according to AAA.

Prices at the pump have increased about 65 cents on average in the course of a month, AAA said, with regular gas costing $4.07 per gallon statewide on Feb. 11.

In March 2025, gas cost about $4.09 a gallon on average in Washington state, according to AAA.

Which Washington counties have the lowest gas prices?

If you’re traveling from one part of the state to another, you can save quite a bit of money by holding off on gassing up.

According to AAA, these counties in Washington had the lowest average prices for a gallon of regular gas as of Wednesday:

  • Asotin: $4.05 per gallon
  • Lincoln: $4.27
  • Garfield: $4.32
  • Stevens: $4.41
  • Spokane: $4.44
  • Pend Oreille: $4.44
  • Yakima: $4.45

Where is gas most expensive in Washington?

These counties had the most expensive gas in Washington state, according to AAA:

  • San Juan: $5.84 per gallon
  • Pacific: $5.08
  • Wahkiakum: $5
  • King: $4.97
  • Jefferson: $4.90
  • Clallam: $4.80
  • Kitsap: $4.79
  • Pierce: $4.79
