3-week Hwy 395 underpass repairs underway at key Kennewick street

Drivers can expect to construction crews at a key Tri-Cities underpass for the next three weeks.

The Washington Department of Transportation is repairing the Highway 395 bridge over Fourth Avenue in central Kennewick.

Fourth runs below the highway. Crews began by working on the highway from beneath.

Travel lanes will be maintained throughout the project, with work scheduled to take place 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays.

Traffic will be shifted to keep both lanes open during most of the project.

However, after about two weeks, crews will work on the highway itself and will close lanes on Fourth Avenue for up to 24 hours for one to two days.

Pedestrian detours also will be set up. The project could be affected by weather, the transportation department said.

The underpass is just west of Westgate Elementary School and the Kennewick National Youth Baseball fields on Fourth Avenue.
