Christmas brings an abundance of many things, including family, food, gifts — and garbage.

Leftover wrapping paper, torn packaging and food scraps can pile up quickly.

If your regular garbage collection falls on Christmas Day — Thursday, Dec. 25 — you may be wondering what that means for trash pickup.

Here’s what to know.

Will Christmas Day delay trash pickup in Richland?

Trash is picked up in the city of Richland every weekday of the year except for Christmas Day, according to the city website.

“If your scheduled collection day falls on Christmas, your garbage will be picked up the following day,” the city said. “All remaining collections that week will be one day later than normal.”

Will garbage be collected on Christmas in Kennewick?

Waste Management Northwest handles garbage pickup in most of Kennewick.

The company collects residential waste and recycling on all holidays except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Customers impacted by either holiday will have their trash collected one day later than normal.

“Weekday holidays will delay collection by one day for the remainder of the week,” Waste Management Northwest explained on its website. “If the holiday falls on Thursday, Thursday customers will be collected on Friday and Friday customers on Saturday.”

How does Christmas impact garbage pickup in Pasco?

Basin Disposal handles trash collection in Pasco and other cities and areas throughout Eastern Washington.

Drivers get a break on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

If your regular trash pickup day falls on one of these holidays, “Collection will be delayed by one day,” the waste collection company said.

“Thursday customers will be serviced on Friday,” Basin Disposal said, while “Friday customers will be serviced on Saturday.”
