‘Total loss.’ Pasco home destroyed by backyard cookout fire near I-182
A home in Pasco burned on Thursday afternoon after cooking equipment caught fire in the backyard.
Flames climbed to the attic and consumed the rest of the home at the corner of West Lincoln Drive and North Seventh Avenue.
Three people evacuated the house safely and were evaluated by medical personnel. There were no injuries.
It started at 12:15 p.m. and took more than one hour to put out.
Lincoln Drive curves near the home and runs parallel to Interstate 182. The fire crossed the barrier and burned vegetation near the highway, creating traffic delays.
The fire also reached a nearby home and burned an outdoor shed.
Pasco Fire Department Deputy Chief Chris Mortensen told the Tri-City Herald that the home is uninhabitable after the fire, describing it as a “total loss.”
Mortensen said the combination of heat and high winds caused the fire to spread and damage surrounding areas.
The Pasco Fire Department worked with Franklin County Fire District 3, Kennewick Fire Department, Walla Walla Fire District 5, Tri-Cities Chaplaincy and the American Red Cross. No firefighters were injured.
