A 71-year-old woman was hit and killed Monday morning as she tried to cross 27th Avenue in Kennewick.
Daphne Rothfork of Kennewick was walking along an irrigation canal just east of the Vancouver Street roundabout when she started crossing the busy Kennewick street about 6:45 a.m., said Kennewick Detective Alexander Holden.
She was hit by a silver pickup heading east.. The driver and other witnesses called 911, Holden said.
Emergency responders tried to revive her, but she died at the scene.
She was crossing in the middle of a block, headed north, and was not in a marked crosswalk.
Holden said the driver wasn’t impaired or speeding.
